3PL or Third Party Logistics provides first-class service to its clients facing challenges at Warehouse operations in areas such as:
- Pick to staging time – Which makes the estimation of manpower requirement during the peaking weeks illogical and difficult.
- Staging, value add or segregation time – Once the order is picked and staged, the time the dock is occupied is not visible on a real time basis. Dock utility and allocation becomes more people driven rather than being process driven
- Loading team utilization – with the volumes that moves through the warehouse, the efficiency of the loading team is not visible with real time data. This delays the decision making for increasing or reducing the required numbers.
- Truck allocation and logical utilization – The order to truck allocation is done primarily by the transport desk and with limited visibility of utilization of the trucks which are on a dedicated basis. This leads into mismatch of uniform utilization of vehicle and unnecessary market vehicles taken.
After analysing many warehouse operations, LogiKal.ai found that certain tasks are needed to evaluate and improve efficiency, but the data points were absent in the WMS.
Tasks need to be measured for increased productivity, which was never part of the process improvement.
There was clear need for a Logistics Efficiency Tool, that could provide detailed auditable insight into these data points to enhance productivity.
Solution
After identifying the 3PL’s challenges, LogiKal.ai developed a mobile-based solution, that allows the creation and sequencing of tasks based on rules to systemize and enforce the 3PL’s processes.
Additionally, employees could stay connected, collaborate and communicate while performing tasks in the warehouse. The mobile application is also designed to collect and process data in real-time.
Results
With LogiKal.ai mobile application, every task which is a challenge at the warehouse will get tracked, and problem areas can be identified and improved. Auditable visibility of the following additional data points are now generated at the swipe of the mobile application.
- Order pick completion time
- Staging and value add time with the result of dock utilization
- Truck advance visibility and scheduling based on the order and docks
- Truck loading TAT at each dock
These data points are complemented with the tracking of the shipment to delivery and the Receiving TAT at the consignee point.
With the visibility estimating the manpower for various sales pattern could be achieved leading into a gain into efficiency and saving the cost in terms of manpower deployment.
